Fire destroys 100 houses near Port of Batangas City

MANILA, Philippines — A fire reportedly caused by faulty electrical wiring destroyed at least 100 houses as it raged for about 5 hours on Saturday in Barangay Santa Clara in Batangas City.

According to a Radyo Inquirer report, the fire started around 6:00 p.m. at the Terminal Building of the Port of Batangas City.

The fire, which reached a general alarm, was declared out by 11:00 p.m., according to DZMM Teleradyo.

The Batangas Chapter of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) mobilized three ambulances, a rescue van, and a 6×6 truck to Barangay Santa Clara at around 6:20 p.m., according to a tweet by Sen. Richard Gordon, PRC chairman.

The Batangas Filipino Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade posted a livestream video of the fire on its Facebook account.
