8-year-old boy, construction worker shot dead in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines — An 8-year-old boy and a construction worker were shot dead by two unidentified gunmen at a basketball court in Caloocan City on Saturday morning.

Police identified the construction worker as 23-year-old Jaylord Cajuban and the boy as Jefferson Dimarillas — both residents of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Geronimo Cajuban, brother of Jaylord, said he heard two gunshots as he was going out of their house.

When he checked the basketball court, he saw the lifeless bodies of his brother and the boy on the pavement.

Jaylord was shot in the head and the boy in the abdomen.

They were rushed to Jose N. Rodriguez Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival at about 3:45 a.m.

Recovered from the scene were two spent cartridge casings from an unknown caliber of firearm.

Police have no suspects as of this writing, according to Lt. Col. Ferdinand Del Rosario, deputy director for administration of the Caloocan City Police Station. /atm
