MANILA, Philippines – Motorists will now have to keep their pace within the maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) on Edsa and other major roads in Metro Manila or be fined P1,000 every time they breach the newly imposed rule, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Friday.
In its Regulation No. 19-00, MMDA has set the maximum speed limit and penalty with the aim of averting accidents along main roads in the metropolis.
According to MMDA, road accidents “can be largely attributed to over speeding.”
The 60 kph maximum speed limit policy will be enforced on the following roads:
Circumferential roads
Recto Avenue
Pres. Quirino Avenue
Araneta Avenue
Edsa
C.P. Garcia Avenue
Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
Radial roads
Roxas Boulevard
Taft Avenue
South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)
Shaw Boulevard
Ortigas Avenue
Magsaysay Boulevard/Auroro Boulevard
Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue
A. Bonifacio Avenue
Rizal Avenue
Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway
Buses and trucks, however, are exempted from the 60 kph maximum speed limit policy, according to the MMDA regulation. /kga
