Violators will be fined P1,000 every time they disobey rule

MANILA, Philippines – Motorists will now have to keep their pace within the maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) on Edsa and other major roads in Metro Manila or be fined P1,000 every time they breach the newly imposed rule, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Friday.

In its Regulation No. 19-00, MMDA has set the maximum speed limit and penalty with the aim of averting accidents along main roads in the metropolis.

According to MMDA, road accidents “can be largely attributed to over speeding.”

Pres. Quirino Avenue

Araneta Avenue

Edsa

Roxas Boulevard

Taft Avenue

South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)

Shaw Boulevard

Ortigas Avenue

Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue

A. Bonifacio Avenue

Rizal Avenue

Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway

Buses and trucks, however, are exempted from the 60 kph maximum speed limit policy, according to the MMDA regulation. /kga
