DOLE warns public against livelihood, emergency assistance scams

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Thursday warned the public against fraudsters offering workers livelihood and emergency assistance in exchange for money.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the labor department received multiple reports regarding groups offering assistance under the Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Program (DILEEP).

The labor secretary explained that they do not collect any membership or transaction fees under the program.

Through DILEEP, the government extends assistance by providing additional income and alternative employment to “the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized workers.”

“Please be advised that the DOLE does not authorize any individual or group to collect or solicit money to avail of assistance under the DILEEP,” Bello said in a statement.

“We strongly condemn such practice, and recommend the public not to respond to such solicitations,” he added.

Bello also urged the public to report any incident of fraud related to DOLE. /ee
