MANILA, Philippines — With only 10 days away from the start of the overseas voting for the midterm elections, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez has reminded overseas voters on what they need to know.
In a series of tweets, Jimenez disclosed three main voter education tips that every overseas voter should know.
According to Jimenez, results of the overseas voting will not be disclosed to the public pending the holding of the national and local elections here in the Philippines on May 13.
“Hindi malalaman ang resulta ng #overseasvoting hanggang hindi natatapos ang voting period on 13 May 2019 – kasabay ng pagtatapos ng botohan sa Pilipinas,” he said.
“Kaya wag maniniwala sa mga maagang balitang m nanalo na si…! Tapos na ang laban!” Fake news yan,” he added.
Voting in other countries for the midterm elections starts on April 13 and ends on May 13. Meanwhile, elections here in the country will only be on May 13, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Aside from this, Jimenez also noted seafarers could vote “anywhere their ship makes port during the #overseasvoting period.”
Finally, Jimenez said there are several ways overseas voters could cast their votes.
Overseas voting could be done personally, by electronic mail, manual voting, or using the vote-counting machine (VCMs).
Here in the Philippines, VCMs will be used for the midterm elections, Jimenez said.
According to the Comelec, more than 1.8 million overseas voters are expected to participate in the midterm polls. /muf
