DID YOU KNOW: 80th birth anniversary of Lino Brocka
MANILA, Philippines — Today, April 3, is the 80th birth anniversary of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Catalino “Lino” Brocka.
His works were known to reflect his social activist spirit and his 66 films narrated stories from the marginalized sector of the society.
He won awards and recognition from institutions like the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (Famas), and Cannes Film Festival.
Among his notable works were “Wanted: Perfect Mother,” “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang,” and “Maynila: Sa Kuko ng Liwanag.” Brocka died on May 22, 1991 and was named a national artist in 1997. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
