Man nabbed for ‘growing’ marijuana at his backyard in Olongapo City

OLONGAPO CITY — Police here on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly grows marijuana (cannabis) plants in his backyard.

Insp. Mar Joseph Ravelo, commander of Police Station 4 here, said they were tipped off by village officials that suspect Gilbert Caruel, 26, a native of Negros Occidental, has been maintaining the marijuana plantation behind his house.

Police discovered the plantation at Caruel’s residence in Barangay New Cabalan.

Caruel’s companion identified only as alias Bong, however, managed to escape.

Ravelo said it was not immediately clear how large the marijuana backyard plantation was since the suspects uprooted some plants before the raid. /kga
