Highway mishap injures 10 along NLEX

MANILA, Philippines — At least 10 people were reported injured after the tire of a moving van exploded along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on Saturday.

According to the initial report by the NLEX management, a Hyundai H100 van was traversing along the northbound section of Candaba Viaduct around 12:18 p.m. when its tire blew up.

The flattened tire threw the vehicle out of balance resulting it to swerve heavily and hit the six-wheeler Elf truck traversing on its side.

NLEX noted that the van was carrying at least 15 passengers when the accident happened.

All of the injured individuals–all adult and no minor–were rushed to the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in Pampanga for medical treatment.

With this, NLEX reminded the public to check their vehicles before traveling to their respective destinations.

The management also warned the motorists to expect heavy traffic from Pulilan Exit to San Simon Exit due to the accident.

Authorities are now on site to assist in the smooth flow of traffic in the affected area. A follow-up investigation is also underway as of this posting. /jpv
