PILI, Camarines Sur — Camarines Sur Gov. Miguel “Migs” Villafuerte declared on Thursday a state of calamity in the province due to the effects of El Niño in its farms.
“We decided to declare a state of calamity to hasten livelihood assistance and relief goods to the farmers and residents affected by this natural phenomenon,” Villafuerte said.
According to Villafuerte, the provincial government had asked assistance from the Department of Agriculture and national government to conduct cloud seeding in the province.
“We have already asked them to conduct cloud seeding to encourage rain, water flow,” he said.
Villafuerte also encouraged farmers to plant vegetables that are “less dependent on water” as the days without rain continued to affect the country.
Villafuerte also said they have been distributing potable water to the 1,036 barangays (villages) in the province that are heavily affected by El Niño.
