/ 05:06 AM March 21, 2019

Today, March 21, is the 122nd death anniversary of Marcela Marcelo, a woman general during the revolution against Spain.

Born in Malibay, which is now part of Pasay City, Marcelo earned the nicknames, Selang Bagsik (Ferocious Sela) and Henerala Sela (General Sela), when she led a group of Filipino rebels against the Spaniards.

She was killed after she was shot in the head by Spanish soldiers.

A monument in her honor was unveiled in Pasay City in June 2006. —Alex Palacio, Inquirer Research junior intern
