2 robbery suspects killed in shootout with cops in QC

MANILA, Philippines – Two alleged robbers were killed in a shootout with policemen just after the pair declared a heist early Monday in Quezon City.

The suspects are still unidentified as police are waiting for relatives to claim the bodies.

Senior Inspector Roberto Razon of the Batasan police station said the robbers were killed after a shootout with his operatives at around 1:45 a.m. at the corner of Road 44 and Dupax St. in Barangay Old Balara.

One of the men is believed to be a member of the Bahala na (Come What May) Gang because of a tattoo bearing the gang’s name on his body.

The man is estimated to be between 33 and 35 years old, 5’1” in height and wore a green seat shirt and jeans. The other suspect is 23 to 27 years old, 4’4” in height and wore a cap, black t-shirt and shorts.

Police recovered a .9millimeter pistol and a snub nosed .38 caliber revolver from the suspects, as well as a belt bag containing P2,000, which was taken from Juan Jimenez, 52, a resident of Caloocan City.

The victim was on his way home that night aboard a jeepney cruising along Commonwealth Ave. and bound for Fairview.

At that time, the two suspects were aboard the jeepney as passengers. Jimenez, however, became suspicious of the firearms tucked into the suspect’s waists and decided to alight the jeepney.

The two men, however, followed him when he got off at Feria Road in Barangay Old Balara and consequently robbed him.

They then ran toward the Ever Gotesco mall while Jimenez called for help from a police car making the rounds in the area.

The police soon caught up with the suspects but the men opened fire on the law enforcers, sparking a gunfight in which the suspects were killed.
