A woman in Guiyang county in Chenzhou, Hunan province, China escaped death after injecting herself with fruit juices, which she thought was a way to keep herself healthy.

The 51-year-old woman only identified as Zeng was reported to have an interest in unusual health treatments, as per Xiaoxing Morning Herald via South China Morning Post on Monday, March 18.

Zeng mixed 20 types of fruit to give herself an intravenous infusion, where the liquid substance is injected directly into a vein.

After injecting herself with the juice, she felt itchy and her temperature rose. However, Zeng did nothing about it.

Her husband had to take her to a county hospital when he found out about the infusion. Zeng was then sent to another institution, the Affiliated Hospital Xiangnan Hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care, the report said.

Doctors then cleansed her blood using dialysis and gave her antibiotics, among others. The patient felt better five days later.

The woman’s doctor, Liu Jianxiu, said that Zeng almost died of multiple organ failure and sepsis. He added that she also had a severe infection, and suffered damage to her heart, kidney and liver.

“I had thought fresh fruits were very nutritious and it would not do me harm by injecting them into my body,” Zeng said in the report. “I had no idea that would get me into such trouble.” Katrina Hallare/JB
