MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) management on Tuesday announced that it will suspend operations during the Holy Week to make way for annual general maintenance works.
In an advisory, the MRT-3 management reminded passengers that trips are suspended from Holy Monday, April 15, until Easter Sunday, April 21.
“Maintenance works that will be done during the one week suspension of revenue operations include rail grinding, rail cascading, replacement of turnouts, structural testing, and other general maintenance activities on our trains, electrical systems, and other MRT-3 subsystems,” the management said.
Normal operations will resume on April 22.
“Due to the current degraded condition of MRT-3, the 2019 Holy Week shutdown programmed maintenance activities that require longer suspension of operations,” Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary for Communications Goddes Hope Libiran Libiran told reporters in a text message.
“Preventive and repair activities will be done to improve the reliability of the system, as we implement in parallel the comprehensive rehabilitation and overhaul of the entire MRT-3,” she added.
MRT-3 management already recorded eight unloading incidents this year.
The recent unloading report happened last Monday evening wherein more than 650 passengers where affected. /gsg
