MANILA, Philippines — A dead whale that washed ashore in Compostela Valley had about 40 kilograms of plastic waste in its stomach.

This was the shocking discovery of Davao City-based non-government organization D’ Bone Collector Museum, which found the Cuviers beaked whale beached on shore of Sitio Asinan, Barangay Cadunan on Saturday.

In a statement on their Facebook page on Sunday, the group said it found “40 kilos of plastic bags, including 16 rice sacks, 4 banana plantation style bags, and multiple shopping bags” inside the whale’s stomach.

“This whale had the most plastic we have ever seen in a whale. It’s disgusting,” D’ Bone Collector Museum noted in its statement.

The group then urged the government to take action against people who dump their trash in the ocean.

“Action must be taken by the government against those who continue to treat the waterways and ocean as dumpsters,” it said. /kga
