When Reyzalin Valentin was diagnosed in June 2015 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, her father, Reynaldo, decided to sell his tricycle, their family’s only source of income.
“Since the medicines our daughter needed were very expensive, we had no choice but to let our prized possession go. Reynaldo bought the tricycle on installment basis,” Shirley Madrid, Reynaldo’s live-in partner, told the Inquirer.
The couple have four children aged 20, 13, 12 with Valentin being the youngest at age 5.
Madrid said that while she was busy soliciting donations for their daughter’s medical expenses, Reynaldo went back to being a tricycle driver in Antipolo City where they live.
“We have yet to start the 12-cycle chemotherapy maintenance program and radiation treatment because my daughter is still recovering from pneumonia. We will be needing P22,000 per chemotherapy session at Philippine Children’s Medical Center,” she added.
