6 areas under Signal No. 1 due to ‘Chedeng’

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Sunday raised Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 over six areas following the entry of Tropical Depression “Chedeng.”

In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it placed the following areas under Signal No. 1:

  • Davao Oriental
  • Compostela Valley
  • Davao del Sur
  • Davao City
  • Davao Occidental
  • Southern part of Davao del Norte including Samal Island

Pagasa last spotted Chedeng at 725 km east of Davao City, moving west direction at 20 kilometers per hour.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph with a gustiness reaching up to 60 kph.

Residents living in Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Davao del Norte may have scattered to at times widespread moderate to heavy rains on Monday, March. 18, while it may prevail over most parts of Mindanao on Tuesday, March 19).

Pagasa also advised those with small sea vessels not to venture over the eastern seaboards of Visayas, Mindanao, and of areas under the storm signal.

Chedeng is expected to make landfall over the eastern coast of Davao Oriental between Monday night and Tuesday morning. /atm
