MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle riders should not complain about the newly required bigger license plates for motorcycles as the law is for their own benefit.

According to Gordon, motorcycle drivers were only concerned about the image of their vehicles and were only exaggerating the issue.

“Paanong magiging delikado yan? Magiging delikado yan kung kasing laki ng telebisyon yung plaka. Ine-exaggerate nila eh,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed on March 8 the Republic Act No. 11235, or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, which mandates the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to issue bigger and color-coded number plates in order to prevent riding-in-tandems to ply the streets.

According to the law, the font style should be bigger and readable from the front, side and back of the motorcycle from a distance of 15 meters from the vehicle.

The law also require motorcycle drivers to have two plates in their vehicles — one placed at the back, while the other in front.

Gordon said that under the said measures, it would help drivers in reporting their stolen motorcycles. This, he added, would help authorities in tracking and finding their vehicles.

With this, Gordon maintained that the signing of the said law would benefit the drivers themselves.

“Anong cino-complain nila? Eh para sa kabutihan nila ‘yan, para sa pag aari ng motorcycle,” Gordon said
