MANILA, Philippines — A Senior High School teacher who was accused of raping his student inside his boarding house last year was arrested by operatives of the San Juan City Police on Friday.
San Juan City Police chief Senior Supt. Ariel Fulo identified the suspect as Zamir Laud, who was arrested inside his boarding house in Barangay Sta. Lucia around 11:40 a.m.
According to police, the suspect, a Science and research teacher at the San Juan City National High School, has a standing warrant of arrest for rape issued by the San Juan City Regional Trial Court Branch 14 dated February 21, 2019.
Police said the 17-year-old victim, whose name is being withheld for being a minor, went to the teacher’s boarding house on August 13, 2018 to open up about a personal problem that authorities did not disclose.
During their conversation, the suspect then allegedly made sexual advances and eventually raped the victim.
Police said that two days after the incident, the victim reported it to other teachers who in turn relayed it to the police. The teachers then filed a case of rape against the suspect.
Senior Supt. Fulo said that the arrest was a result of surveillance of his subordinates after they received information that the suspect was still living at the same boarding house.
The suspect denied the accusation but the medico-legal officer of the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Office showed that the victim was indeed raped.
Laud is now detained at the San Juan City Police Custodial Facility. No bail was recommended for his case. /je
