MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured on Thursday that it has enough water to supply the jail facilities, saying it has anticipated that problems in water supply normally occur during the summer season.

Amid interruptions of water supply in parts of Metro Manila, Chief Inspector Xavier Solda, spokesperson of the BJMP, said that the agency has already coordinated with water suppliers ahead of time.

“Fortunately, for BJMP facilities in Metro Manila, wala kaming problema sa tubig,” he said in a press conference at the agency’s headquarters in Quezon City.

“Since anticipated na namin [that] during summer season talagang nagkakaroon ng problema sa tubig, nagkaroon na kami ng early coordination doon sa mga nagpoprovide ng supply ng tubig sa atin, Maynilad, itong mga kumpanya na ito para mabigyan talaga ng tulong ang BJMP pagdating sa kakulangan sa tubig,” he said.

“We assure the public, the families ng PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty) na enough ‘yung supply ng tubig sa jail facilities natin. Napaghandaan siya ng BJMP,” he said.

According to Solda, the BJMP has also coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for assistance in water supply for its facilities.

He said water drums were also procured by the BJMP to stock water for the use of PDLs.

“Mahalaga kasi na ‘yung mga jail facilities natin meron talaga silang enough na supply ng tubig kasi of course maapektuhan ‘yung hygiene ng mga PDL natin kapag kulang talaga ‘yung tubig sa loob,” Solda said.

He also said that as early as December, the agency has procured enough medicines for PDLs to deal with common diseases during summer. /jpv
