Fire officer found dead in his home in Davao del Sur

BANSALAN, DAVAO DEL SUR — A former fire marshall of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here was found dead at his residence on Wednesday, police said.

Chief Insp. Rodante Varona, of the Bansalan police station, said Fire Insp. Leopoldo Quimson, 53, a resident of Barangay Poblacion 2, was found dead at around 12:20 pm.

Varona said the victim’s wife, a public school teacher, went home for lunch and found her husband unconscious by the window of their house.

Police said the victim used a flat rope which the victim reportedly tied around his neck on one end. The other end was tied to the window.

The victim was rushed to the nearby Mabama Hospital, but the attending physician declared him dead upon arrival, according to the police.

Varona said Quimson was assigned at the Davao del Sur Provincial Fire Office after he was relieved last year from the town’s fire station. He said Quimson was supposed to retire from the BFP in February 2020.  /ee
