MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has extended its assistance to the hospitals affected by the water interruptions in Metro Manila following the dwindling of the water level at La Mesa Dam.
PRC chairman Senator Richard Gordon said on Wednesday that the agency dispatched several water tankers at hospitals, which include the Rizal Medical Center (RMC). This is to make sure that the water supply problem in health facilities is readily addressed.
RMC is only one of the hospitals around the metro affected by the service interruption of the Manila Water.
According to Gordon, the PRC is prioritizing hospitals in order to ensure that healthcare services as well as sanitation in their premises will not be somehow affected.
“The problem was formidable. We solved it by providing a pump that can fill the water tanks, which will supply water in the 450-bed hospital,” Gordon said in a statement.
“This should help the patients who are vulnerable due to lack of potable and clean water in the facility,” he added.
He said that the PRC mobilized two 12,000-liter and four 10,000-liter water tankers which can load up to 64,000 liters of water per batch.
Gordon added that PRC is also planning to acquire more 10,000-liter water tankers to assist other affected hospitals in Metro Manila. /jpv
