Angara: Establish more welfare attachés for OFWs

Additional welfare attachés should be established in countries where there are many overseas Filipino workers (OFW) suffering or confronted by various problems, according to Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.

Angara who co-authored a bill for the creation of additional attachés recently guested on Radyo Inquirer’s Bantay OCW program.

Angara said that apart from the labor attachés, the creation of welfare attachés would address other pressing needs of Filipinos working overseas particularly those that experience abuse and other emotional, psychological, and even legal problems.

“The concerns of the labor attachés should be different from the concerns of the welfare attachés,” Angara said.

Angara said that the countries where welfare attachés would be established would depend on the information to be gathered from the DFA, OWWA, POEA and other independent labor organizations that are focused on the needs of migrant workers.

Angara is running for re-election.
