2 deaths: ex-DAR chief, ex-justice

DAGUPAN CITY—Former Agrarian Reform Minister Conrado Estrella Sr. died in his sleep at the family house in Manila on Tuesday. He was 93.

A family aide said Estrella underwent heart bypass several years ago, but he had no major ailment before his death.

Estrella, who was also former Pangasinan governor, served as agrarian reform minister under the administration of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, his political ally and friend.

His last public appearance in Pangasinan was on Jan. 10 this year when he attended the celebration of the Lingayen Gulf Landing. He was the grandfather of former Pangasinan Rep. Conrado Estrella III and Abono Rep. Robert Raymond Estrella.

Another prominent individual, Regalado Maambong, former elections commissioner, also died on Friday due to multiple organ failure.

Maambon was also a former Court of Appeals justice and helped draft the 1987 Constitution.
