MANILA, Philippines — An alleged gang member was killed in a shootout with the police in Tondo, Manila, on Monday.

The Manila Police District (MPD) on Tuesday identified the suspect as Adonis Caputalan, an alleged member of the Joshua Bahar Group and the Sputnik Gang.

Police said they had a brief encounter with members of the Joshua Bahar Group at about 3 a.m. on Monday but the suspects escaped. They later conducted a follow-up operation and chanced upon Caputalan at about 2:55 p.m.

Police said another gunfight ensued between them and the suspect, killing Caputalan on the spot.

Recovered from the crime scene were a .45-caliber pistol, a .38-caliber revolver, a fragmentation grenade, two sets of police uniforms with logos of the National Capital Region Police Office and the MPD, and three sachets of suspected “shabu.” /cbb
