MANILA, Philippines – The water supply woes gripping parts of Metro Manila and nearby areas may get worse before signs of improvement prevail, Manila Water Communications Manager Dittie Galang warned on Monday.
“Sa totoo lang po, yung specific date na magno-normlize siya ay hindi pa rin po namin nakikita. We are dependent on the forces of nature. It may get worse before it gets better,” Galang said in an interview over radio dzMM.
She, however, assured consumers that the Manila Water is doing its best to address the water supply problem.
“Ang sinisuguro lang po namin sa aming mga customers, pinagtatrabahuhan po namin nang masigasig na sana sa mga susunod na araw, sa mga susunod na linggo or sa mga susunod na buwan hanggang dumating yung pag-ulan, wala na po sanang makaranas na 24 hours na walang tubig,” Galang said.
(We assure our consumers that we are working hard so that in the coming days, weeks, or months, or until the rainy season, consumers wouldn’t endure a continuous water supply interruption for 24 hours.)
Manila Water is one of the two concessionaires in Metro Manila that relies on the water supply from the Angat, Ipo and La Mesa dams.
Manila Water supplies water to consumers in the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, San Andres and Santa Ana in Manila as well as in the municipalities and/or cities of Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jalajala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Taytay and Teresa in Rizal.
The water level at the La Mesa Dam breached the critical level of 69 meters Sunday afternoon, when water level dropped to 68.93 meters.

Manila Water earlier said that water supply interruptions would continue until the end of the summer due to the declining water level at La Mesa Dam.

It has also apologized to its customers for the unexpected water service interruption, adding that it has already started to augment the supply in its reservoirs to boost supply in affected areas. / gsg
