MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairperson and his companion were shot dead by an unidentified number of gunmen on a Toyota Innova in Barangay (village) Mahanadiong in Taysan, Batangas, on Monday.
The Batangas Provincial Police Office identified the victims as Rolly Loredo, 39, chair of Barangay Mataas na Lupa, and a certain Reynan Garbin, 29.
According to police, the victims were on a Toyota Wigo when the gunmen overtook their vehicle and opened fire at them.
Police said witnesses saw one of the attackers use a “long firearm.”
The gunmen reportedly fled towards Rosario town.
Investigators are trying to identify the attackers and the motive behind the murder. /cbb
