Boy Scout, 12, drowns in Cagayan province

TUGUEGARAO CITY — A scouting event in Cagayan turned tragic after a 12-year-old member of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines drowned in a lagoon on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Senior Insp. Sharon Mallillin, Cagayan provincial police spokesperson, identified the victim as Vince Lucina, a Grade 6 pupil of Solana Elementary School.

Mallillin said Lucina was among the participants in the provincial jamboree being held at Barangay Zitanga in Ballesteros, Cagayan.

Police said the boy took a dip in the lagoon without notifying his scoutmaster.

Mallillin said Lucina reached a deep part of the lagoon and drowned.

Rescuers brought the boy to the Ballesteros District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
