Ex-village chair nabbed for drugs

ILIGAN CITY — A former barangay chairman was arrested, past 5 p.m. on March 8, after he was caught in a ‘pot session’ inside an abandoned house in Barangay Padian Torogan, in Madalum town, Lanao del Sur.

Zobair Acato Alawi, 49, was a surrenderer of police operation plan Toktok Hangyo (Oplan Tokhang) which was implemented in 2016.

Police did not say when Alawi, a resident of the said place, surrendered.

Senior Inspector Jemar Delos Santos, information officer of Police Region Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said police conducted the anti-drug operation as a response to a report from the community.

Confiscated from Alawi were two sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, disposable lighters, and an improvised glass totter.

Alawi and the pieces of evidence were brought to the Madalum police station for proper disposition./lzb
