MANILA, Philippines–A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck off Calayan Island in Cagayan province at 5:09 a.m. Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the quake that centered 85 kilometers northwest of Calayan. It has a depth of 70 kilometers.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
