President Duterte has appointed retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Noel Tijam as the newest member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
In an appointment paper signed by the President on March 5, Tijam will replace Jose Mejia and will represent the academe in the JBC.
The retired magistrate will serve in the JBC until July 9, 2022, as part of the body which screens applicants to the judiciary.
Tijam retired from the Supreme Court on Jan. 5 and was replaced recently by Amy Javier.
To represent the academe in the council, a member should be a professor of law as required by the 1987 Constitution.—JULIE M. AURELIO
