WATCH: Truck carrying butane canisters catches fire in Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines — A truck carrying butane canisters burst into flames on Friday morning along the highway in Dauin town in Negros Oriental.

In a video posted on Facebook, the truck was seen being engulfed in flames accompanied by explosions along Highway Masaplod Norte in Dauin town.

Just now: Here in Dauin while on our way to Bayawan City a truck carrying butane exploded.Thank you Lord for keeping us safe. 🙏🏻

Senior Fire Inspector 2 Hercel Vidal of Bakong Fire Station told INQUIRER.net that the fire started at around 9:30 a.m.

It reached first alarm five minutes later and was declared out at 9:43 p.m.

Vercel said the truck driver claimed that the estimated 50 cases of butane refill canisters suddenly burst into flames.

However, the fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

The truck driver, along with his companion, was able to get out of the truck safely. No one was injured in the incident, Vercel said.

He added that the truck was from Tampi town bound for Sipalay City.

The amount of damage caused by the fire is still under investigation. /ee
