As poll bets trade barbs, Sara Duterte says ‘Everybody lies’

MANILA, Philippines — “Everybody lies,” Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) leader Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday said as she scoffed at opposition senatorial candidates who accuse pro-administration bets of telling lies.

“Ang sabi nila, the issue is not about [a] college degree but honesty. So ano gagawin natin sa kanila tulad nila (Gary) Alejano, nagsisinungaling — wala naman siyang proof na galing sa public funds ang T-shirt (ni Bong Go),” Duterte-Carpio said.

(They say that the issue is not about a college degree but honesty. So what are we going to do with people like Alejano who is telling lies. He has no proof that Bong Go used public funds for the T-shirts.)

“They deliberately say false statements on stage about and against the administration of President Duterte. So lahat sila sinungaling. Lahat ng tao sa mundong ito, sinungaling (So they are all liers. Everybody lies,” she added.

On Tuesday, Alejano claimed that Go, President Duterte’s former aide, used government resources during the Liga ng mga Barangay assembly last week for his senatorial bid.

The presidential daughter has already defended Go, saying that Alejano was just “lying” when he issued the allegation.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Governor and senatorial candidate Imee Marcos has come under fire over her school records at Princeton University and the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law.

The two prominent universities issued separate statements denying that the daughter of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos had graduated from their respective institutions.

Marcos has been evading questions over her supposed law degrees since the educational institutions denied her claim. /ee
