OFW on vacation slain inside Quezon videoke bar

LUCENA CITY – An overseas contract worker who was on vacation was shot and killed inside a videoke bar in Infanta town in Quezon province Saturday night, police said.

In a report, Chief Insp. Lowell Atienza, Infanta police chief, said Christopher Espetero, a merchant marine was having a drink with friends inside a resto bar in Barangay (village) Comon around 10:15 p.m. when Kenneth Avellano, another bar client, approached and shot him twice using a caliber .22 gun.

The victim, who suffered a fatal bullet wound in his chest, was taken to Claro M. Recto Memorial District Hospital but died along the way.

Earlier, the victim and the suspect who were both under the influence of liquor when they arrived at the bar, had an argument over a vacant table which was eventually taken by the victim’s group, police said.

“The killing was unfortunate because it was only triggered by an argument over a drinking table,” Atienza said in a phone interview.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the town police jail. /lzb
