Motorcycle vs truck: 1 dead, 1 hurt in Makati road mishap

MANILA, Philippines — A rider was killed while his backrider was hurt following a road collision involving a motorcycle and a truck in Makati City on Friday night.

Reports at the Makati City Police Station said the accident happened around 8 p.m. along the northbound lane of the intersection connecting Edsa Service Road and Lapu-Lapu St. in barangay Magallanes.

Police identified the driver of the truck–a concrete mixer–as Andy Cordero Supan, 41, while the motorcycle riders were Robb Membrere, 25, driver of the motorcycle and his passenger Renalyn Jaravilla, 26.

In an initial investigation, the motorcycle and truck were both travelling along Edsa northbound lane from Pasay City to South Superhighway direction. 

Upon reaching Edsa service road, the two vehicles collided, smashing into each other when they tried to merge into the same lane.

The front side portion of the truck collided with the front left side portion of the motorcycle.

Membrere was ran over by the truck’s right tire while Jaravilla was thrown off and sustained injuries.

Makati City Rescue ambulance rushed to the scene and found Membrere already lifeless on the pvaement. Jaravilla was then brought to St. Luke’s Hospital in Taguig City for medical treatment.

Cordero was then brought to the police station for inquest proceedings.

The truck driver will be facing possible charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property. /jpv
