Marikina names city’s 13 outstanding individuals

Thirteen people were named outstanding individuals in Marikina City the other day for their contributions in their respective fields.

The awardees, coming from disciplines ranging from sports to the arts, were formally recognized in ceremonies at Teatro Marikina on Thursday.

The event was in celebration of the 15th cityhood anniversary of the shoe capital.

Named Outstanding Marikeños were: Darwin de la Calzada (Sports- Baseball), Victorino Perea (Business), Ronaldo “Ronnie” Magsanoc (Sports- Basketball), Gerard Rikken (Community Service), Undersecretary Anthony Parungao (Government Service), Elisea Gozun (Government), Major General Emmanuel Bautista (Military), and Remedios Rikken (Women and Gender Development).

The Outstanding Artists, on the other hand, were Peter de Guzman (Sculpture), Simeona Chanyungco (Dance), Nona Garcia (Visual Arts), Fernando Josef (Theater), and Maria Regalado Yusi (Music).

First time

“This is the first time that the city (recognizes) people who have greatly contributed in the improvement and have given honor to the city,” De Guzman said in a statement.

He added, however, that there were already plans to make “Recognition Night” a yearly occasion.
