LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET — Candidates for Benguet provincial elective posts in this year’s midterm elections signed on Tuesday a peace covenant for peaceful campaign period and polls.
The signing at the Benguet Capitol building came after a unity walk from the Benguet State University to the Benguet Capitol.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) officers, members of the La Trinidad Women’s Brigade, Benguet police and government soldiers joined the candidates in the parade.
Lawyer Nicasio Jacob, Comelec provincial election officer, said the elections in Benguet had been peaceful in the past but he reminded the candidates to abide by Comelec rules.
Rufina Fegcan, provincial officer of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, said the unity walk aims to foster solidarity among the candidates and the voters.
“Unity walk is not just for the candidates but for everyone, for all of us,” she said./lzb
