Edsa People Power remembered peacefully — PNP

MANILA, Philippines — The commemoration of the Edsa People Power Revolution on Monday was peaceful and orderly, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

“Sa ngayon, ang general situation sa buong bansa ay peaceful at orderly. Wala naman pong untoward incident (The general situation now is that Edsa celebrations across the country are peaceful and orderly),” PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard Banac said in a press conference at Camp Crame.

“Ang atin pong kapulisan ay nariyan pa rin para magbigay ng seguridad para sa lahat hanggang sa mamayang gabi (Our police are here to provide security for everyone until tonight),” he said.

In Metro Manila alone, around 2,000 police officers were deployed to enforce security measures, especially in areas of convergence.

No threat was monitored during the day in the metropolis, said National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar.

Eleazar has also directed his subordinates to “strictly observe maximum tolerance” and to “uphold the rights of rallyists at all times” in all protests staged in Metro Manila for the day. /ee
