1 killed, 3 hurt in Davao del Sur motorcycle crash

DIGOS CITY — A motorcycle rider died instantly while his two passengers and a balot vendor, who was crossing the street, were hurt during crash on Monday dawn along a highway here.

City police director Supt. Deozar Almasa identified the fatality as Benjamin Junior Aquel Gamboa, a resident of Purok Rambotan, Brgy. Goma; and the persons injured as back-riders Leo Saludo Regalado, 30, and Junrey Camañan Sadipa, 24; and Marcela Alimao Dagohoy, 48.

Almasa said the motorcycle crashed along the Davao-Cotabato national highway in Brgy. Tres de Mayo, around 12:50 a.m.

Initial investigation disclosed that the motorcycle was over-speeding at the national highway, first hitting Dagohoy before crashing onto an electric post of the Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative.

The injured victims were rushed to Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Police said investigators are looking into whether or not the motorcycle driver was drunk when the incident happened. /kga
