CAAP: No political campaign materials in airports

MANILA, Philippines – Campaign materials are prohibited in all airports and facilities under the management of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

A document dated February 14 obtained by INQUIRER.net on Thursday, stated that “campaign banners, posters, leaflets or other forms of publications for or against any candidate shall not be allowed in all CAAP airports and facilities.”

The CAAP has jurisdiction over airports in Puerto Princesa City, General Santos City, Zamboanga City, Davao City, Kalibo in Aklan, Laoag City and Iloilo City.

“Should any of the above be found, all Area Centers, Airports and Facilities are hereby advised to remove and dispose of the same,” the memorandum added.

The said memorandum is directed to all employees of the agency to serve as an advisory “on electioneering and partisan political activity.”

Employees of CAAP are reminded not to “engage directly or indirectly in any partisan political activity or take part in any election except to vote.”

The CAAP also advised its employees not to “use his/her official authority or influence to coerce the political activity the political activity of any person.”

Earlier, the Commission of Elections and the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission warned civil servants against engaging in partisan political activities. /gsg
