MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned that if a political advertisement does not indicate the name of the person or organization who paid for it, it will be taken down and charges will be filed against those responsible.
Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said that a campaign advertisement which runs on print, broadcast, posters and billboards should indicate the words: “Advertisement paid for and by.”
He noted that there are some billboards or posters that do not abide by this rule.
“Dapat meron din po yan, kaso ito nga, ‘yong mga nakikita natin ngayon, karamihan diyan wala…Violation po yun (There should be a note stating who paid for it. But we’ve been seeing ads that do not have those information. It’s a violation),” Jimenez said in an interview with dzMM on Thursday.
“Kailangan baklasin yun o makasuhan yung naglabas nung ad na yun (It will be taken down, or we will file charges against those responsible for the advertisement),” he added.
The Comelec has been actively monitoring violations and reminding candidates of the campaign rules. /ee
