Catriona Gray keen on promoting Mindanao tourism

MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray said she is keen on promoting Mindanao as one of the Philippines’ premier tourist destinations.

“Mindanao,” Gray answered when asked which place she would promote as a tourist spot during her homecoming press conference on Wednesday.

While acknowledging that some people are hesitant in visiting Mindanao, Gray emphasized the rich culture it has to offer.

“I know there’s a lot of hesitancy especially when I was abroad. People were quite hesitant about Mindanao because of recent news,” she said.

“Although we should take proper precautions in certain areas, there’s such a beautiful and rich culture in Mindanao,” she added.

The 25-year-old beauty queen also expressed dismay that Mindanao’s beauty often goes unnoticed.

“I think people don’t see because it’s overshadowed by all the negativity but if only we could share this to the world, it’s such a beautifully unique aspect of the Philippines. And I feel like it’s such a pity that it’s going unnoticed,” Gray said.

Gray arrived in Manila last Friday night, Feb. 15, for her grand homecoming activities, including a parade from the CCP Complex in Pasay City to Ayala Avenue in Makati City on Thursday. / gsg
