SAN PEDRO CITY – A village captain was killed by unidentified gunmen in Lumban, Laguna on Wednesday.

Ramir Evangelista, 47, captain of Barangay Maytalang 1, was on his motorcycle and was talking to another person on a bridge, when the assailants also on board another motorcycle, shot him several times.

Senior Supt. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said in a phone interview, that Evangelista was rushed to the Christian General Hospital in Pagsanjan town but died about half an hour later.

“We are still looking into his personal activities or if he was involved in any illegal activity,” Matta said, although without elaborating as the case remained under investigation.

A source, who happens to be a former local government employee, however, said the village was known to be a hotspot for illegal drugs trade. Maricar Cinco/lzb
