Village councilor killed in Manila shooting
MANILA, Philippines — A barangay (village) councilor was killed after being shot by motorcycle-riding suspects in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Tuesday.
Police on Wednesday identified the victim as Alfredo Hicana, 48, councilor of Barangay 356, Zone 36 in District 3.
Police said footages from closed-circuit television cameras showed one of the suspects shooting the victim from behind with a pistol along Severino Reyes Street.
Hicana tried to run when he noticed the suspect but was still hit.
Hicana was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital but eventually died from multiple gunshot wounds. The suspects fled the crime scene aboard their motorcycle after the shooting, police said.
Police have launched a manhunt operation for the capture of the suspects. /muf
