Philippine Sports Training Center bill signed into law

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the bill mandating the establishment of a Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC).

Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11214 or the Philippine Sports Training Center Act on Feb. 14, 2019.

The measure requires the construction of necessary sports facilities and amenities within 18 months in a location “suitable and conducive to high-level training of athletes, coaches and referees.”

The P3.5 billion funding has been included in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the establishment and construction of the PSTC.

Under the new law, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will own the PSTC including its sports facilities and amenities.

The new law also directed the PSC to operate the Philippine Sports Training Center including administration of incidental income, security of the complex, assignmet of personnel and hiring of managers and other administrative staff. / gsg
