PNP confirms cocaine worth P5.3M found off Quezon shore

LUCENA CITY – Fishers and coastal residents have been advised to immediately report to the authorities any suspicious package found off the seas and coastlines in Quezon province.

Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, issued the advisory after a laboratory test confirmed that the brick of white substance found along the shore of Mauban town on Monday morning was cocaine.

“The exact weight as per crime lab – 1.01 kilo. It is worth P5.39 million at P5.3 million per kilo,” De Guzman said.

He directed all police stations along the coastal towns to check on all coastal barangays for the possibility of finding more cocaine packages.

“I also advised fishers and coastal residents that if they find any suspicious-looking packages, they should immediately surrender it,” De Guzman said.

Village watchman Johnel Escudero found the brick of white substance wrapped in thick packaging on the coastal boundary of Rosario and San Jose villages fronting Lamon Bay in the Pacific Ocean on Monday morning.

Escudero unwrapped the package and saw a brick of white substance, which he immediately brought to the village chief who subsequently surrendered it to the local police station./lzb
