MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe brushed aside on Monday another possible presidential run in 2022.
“Alam mo siguro nakalipas na ‘yon sapagkat nabigyan na ako ng pagkakataon,” Poe said when asked in an interview if she would consider again running for president in 2022.
(You know, maybe that has passed because I was already given a chance.)
Poe ran but lost to President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections.
“Marami naman dyang puwede na maaaring i-konsidera ng ating mga kababayan; kahit naman sa Senado marami rin naman tayong puwedeng maitulong,” she added.
(There are so many other people who can be considered by the public; even though we are in the Senate, we can still help out a lot.)
Poe is seeking another term in the Senate in the upcoming elections.
The question was asked as Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo raised the possibility of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio following the steps of her father.
But the presidential daughter immediately rejected the idea.
“I do not plan on running for President because everything in my life is far from what I have envisioned,” Duterte-Carpio said Sunday.
“I studied to be a doctor and then I became a lawyer. I wanted to be a housewife but I am now a politician. I have learned that my life is not mine, it is always God’s will, in God’s time, and planning is futile,” she added. /je
