Comelec working with police, military to prevent sabotage in midterm polls

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said that it is working with the police and the military to prevent any form of sabotage, particularly in transmitting results during the midterm polls.

“We will work with the police and the military to prevent any attempt to sabotage the signal,” Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said during the building and testing of the transmission route gateway of votes.

Casquejo said that if the vote counting machines (VCMs) could not transmit results due to weak signal strength, the Electoral Board would have to transfer the VCM to the nearest voting center with a good signal.

If any case that there is no nearby voting center with good signal strength, the VCM will be transferred to another area where there is a stable signal.

The police, military, watchers, and representatives of candidates will monitor the transfer of the VCMs from one point to another, Casquejo said. /ee
