Leticia Advincula was an early riser who started her day by doing household chores until she complained one day that she was having difficulty breathing and moving about.
When she was brought to the hospital, doctors said she was suffering from pleural effusion due to primary tuberculosis.
“We observed her condition for one week before we brought her to St. Claire Medical Center because she said she could no longer stand the pain,” her 68-year-old husband, Vicente, told the Inquirer.
Vicente said that when they went to Manila Medical Center to get a second opinion, the doctors told him that his 59-year-old wife had lung cancer.

“She is currently undergoing radiation therapy five days a week. Doctors have prescribed 30 sessions of this form of treatment. Right now, her lungs keep on producing fluid that must be drained through a tube in her chest,” he added.
Radiation therapy is a form of cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells.
Vicente, a former newspaper boy, asked Inquirer readers to help him raise P46,000 for the 30 radiation sessions and a CT scan.
“Join me also in praying that radiation therapy will be successful so she will no longer undergo chemotherapy which will be complicated considering her age. It is also more expensive,” he said.
