30 Chinese cooks, vendors, hairstylists arrested

The Bureau of Immigration has arrested 30 Chinese nationals for working without permits in several establishments in Parañaque City.

Acting on a tip from an informant, immigration agents rounded up the illegal workers at SoleMare Parksuites and Aseana Power Station on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard on Thursday night.

The Chinese were working as vendors, cooks and hairstylists in 16 establishments at the condominium complex.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Chinese workers either had tourist visas or were undocumented.

Another 17 Chinese nationals and a Taiwanese were also held during the raid but were later released after they produced work visas.

The Chinese were detained at the immigration cell in Bicutan, Taguig City, while awaiting deportation proceedings. —Jovic Yee
